Hello everyone, welcome back to the Vibe Check. Today, to start off my official blog posts, I want take a look at the discography of one of my favorite artists and who was one of the first to inspire me, this being none on other than Hozier. Infamous for his smash hit Take Me to Church, Hozier began his career with his self-titled debut album in 2014. Other songs on the album songs like “Like Real People Do” and “Someone New” achieved minor mainstream success but nothing compared to his hit. Though, I humbly believe that each track on this playlist was deserving of mainstream success and attention. The highlights of this album are Jackie and Wilson, From Eden, In a Week, Work Song, and Cherry Wine, and In the Woods Somewhere. Each of these tracks tackles concepts of raw, genuine, and even biblical depictions love and its trials, all expect In The Woods Somewhere, which offers an immersive and angelic dive into greeting fear. Of the 15 tracks on the album, in my humble opinion, the one single track falls short of the greatness of being repeat worthy, these being “It Will Come Back”, but that’s just my over-criticalness getting the best of me and is certainly still worth the listen. If you have yet to enter Hozier’s mind through songs aside from his mainstream success, then I strongly employ you to give the album a listen and see what personal knowledge you gain from it.
What artist was the first to resonate with you as a child? What album do you always find yourself coming back to? What is a song that you think deserves to be in the mainstream? Let me know!
